Up until now, we have seen smartphone bodies made up of polycarbonate plastic, metal, a mix of glass and metal, and ceramic. But this time, a company named Carbon Mobile (not to be mistaken with Karbonn Mobiles) has announced the world’s first smartphone made up of carbon fiber. The company has named this smartphone as – the Carbon 1 Mark II.
The fact that the smartphone is made up of carbon fiber makes it really lightweight. The Carbon 1 Mark II is 6.3 millimeters thick and weighs just 125 grams, which makes it one of the lightest smartphones in the present time.
The Carbon 1 Mark II features a monocoque design, which looks pretty impressive. The volume rockers and the power button are placed on the right side of the smartphone. The fingerprint sensor is mounted on the right side of the smartphone, just below the power button.
According to Carbon, the smartphone is made using what is called HyRECM Technology (Hybrid Radio Enabled Composite Materials) in which the carbon fibers are intermixed with “radio permitting” composites to create a continuous monocoque which makes the smartphone thin and light in weight.
The Carbon 1 Mark II features a 6.0-inch AMOLED display protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 6, which is 0.4mm thick. According to Carbon, it was specifically built for the Carbon 1 by Corning as they thought it would be a challenge. Normally, regular Gorilla Glass 6 is between 0.6mm to 0.8mm on most phones. There are some bezels on the top and bottom that are noticeable.
The smartphone is powered by the MediaTek’s Helio P90 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of Storage. The camera on the rear is a dual-camera setup that includes a dual 16MP camera while the front-facing camera is a 20MP selfie shooter. The battery on the Mark 1 II is a 3,050mAh battery under the hood. The smartphone has a USB-Type C port.
There is currently no information about whether the phone will support fast charging or not, but if it does, I think it will sport at least 18W fast charging.
The Carbon 1 Mark II will be priced at €799 ( ₹ 63,594.92). You can pre-order the main edition for €800 (~$882). You have to make a down payment of €250 (~$276) and a balance of €550 (~$606) fifteen days before delivery. The shipping will begin in June 2020.
