To control the amount of fake news spreading over the app, the messaging giant WhatsApp has added a new tool called Search the web. It helps users in providing information related to the link they received on their WhatsApp. For instance, WhatsApp showed a link that claimed that drinking boiled garlic water would cure COVID-19. To clarify this, the user can press the magnifying glass button to search for information regarding the link.
WhatsApp has added this new feature to control the amount of fake news spreading on its platform. However, this is not the first time the company has done something like this. In its previous update, WhatsApp added the double arrows feature that intends to let people know that messages have not originated from close contact. Moreover, it also tells users that the message could be a part of chain messages and might be fake.
As we know, in this Coronavirus pandemic situation, we are surrounded by lots of fake news and information. So, this new tool from WhatsApp might prove beneficial to all users. Still, we advise you guys to use this tool if you find any irrelevant link that says this can cure COVID-19. Stay safe, and stay smart.
