Qualcomm announces the new Snapdragon 765 and 765G Processors

Previously in our article, we have reported about the launch of the latest Flagship processor by Qualcomm company, the Snapdragon 865, which will get launched in several top smartphone manufacturers like Xiaomi and Samsung.

On the tech summit of Qualcomm Snapdragon, the vice-chairman and co-founder of the company, Mr. Bin Lin also introduced the all-new Snapdragon 765 and 765G alongside the top tier Snapdragon 865 chipsets.

These processors will be replacing the existing Snapdragon 730 and 730G. The 730 and 730G series by Qualcomm falls under the category of excellent performance and more-economic cost. Just because of their price to performance ratio, the 730 lineup was a huge success for the company.

Now with the Snapdragon 765 and 765G replacing the current 730 and 730G, everyone has high hopes from them. Most probably, these chips will deliver on the promises which their predecessors made as these chips have enhanced 5G capabilities and also advanced-AI capabilities.

The thing which is to be considered is that because of the enhanced capabilities these chips have over their predecessors makes them a little bit expensive also. The 765 Series offers a 20% increase in performance, which is a noticeable jump. All thanks to the more improved Kryo 475 CPU clock at 2.4Ghz and a more revamped Adreno 620 GPU.

These newly announced CPUs will have better performance and battery life because the CPU switches over to a 1+1+6 Prime, Performance, and Efficiency CPU design this generation. These processors will also have features that were till now only supported for the more premium Snapdragon 800-series. Features like HDR 10+ or Qualcomm’s Computer Vision-ISP, which was only supported by the Snapdragon 855.

Qualcomm’s Computer Vision-ISP feature helps in improving the image performance with a 4x power saving, which results in the speed and quality enhancement of the HDR, Night sight, and Portrait.

The 765 lineup does not fall short on the AI side also, because of the AI engine running on these chips is partially ported on the Hexagon 696 DSP with a dedicated Tensor Accelerator. With the support of 5.5TOPS of AI compute, we can say that any device running these chips will be a very capable AI performer.

Snapdragon 765G from a Gamer’s perspective

The main difference between the standard Snapdragon 765 ad the 765G is of graphic performance. The Snapdragon 765G offers a 20% more jump in performance than its sibling. This is the first Snapdragon 700-series chipset to support a 120-Hz refresh rate at FHD+ resolution; also, it supports 10-bit HDR Gaming.

Also, the chips used in 765G are ‘speed-binned’ chips, which result in handling slightly higher GPU clocks and a CPU peak speed boost to 2.4GHz. If compared to the regular 765, the 765G gives higher and smoother frame rates.

Snapdragon 765 5G support

One of the most talked-about features about these chips is their support for 5G connectivity. The Snapdragon 765 and 765G supports Qualcomm’s second-generation Snapdragon X52 5G modem, which has the highest download speed of 3.6gbps dynamic spectrum sharing support, SA and NSA, and sub-6GHz and mmWave bands for global markets.

With all of these features, you must be thinking that the new super mid-tier chipsets will cost a lot more, but it’s not the case. For keeping the cost down, Qualcomm simplified the device development for 5G. According to the company, the phones which will sport these chipsets will most probably appear in the sub-500$ segment. That even makes the Snapdragon 865 launch look pale.

Well, the 5G network is still on its initial stage, even for the more developed areas. These services will be more affordable and widely available in the year 2020 as the devices which will sport the Snapdragon 765 series will appear in the first quarter of the year 2020.
