With the era of modern technologies, mobile companies nowadays are obsessed with a 100-percent full display screen on their smartphones. However, the front camera is the most significant barrier that comes in between this. We already have seen the innovations like pop-up camera, rotating camera, and punch-hole camera for the full display screen on smartphones. But the innovation of under-display cameras will change the future of smartphones display. And it looks like that we can see the Under Display Camera innovation in early 2020 as per the reports that Samsung is already in the process.[wpinsertshortcodead id=”bzyqm5d3e04029f48f”]
Previously we have seen OPPO introduce the first under-display camera at MWC 2019 and stated that it would announce a phone implementing this innovation soon but no further information shared by OPPO after that. Now according to the South Korean website The Elec, Samsung is expected to introduce an OLED display smartphone with Under Display Camera innovation in the first half of 2020. Samsung has actually brought two types of equipment to its campuses- the HIAA1 and HIAA2. The HIAA stands for Hole In Active Area, which helps Samsung to drill the front camera hole within the OLED screen frame.
As per the reports, HIAA1 equipment is for the punch-hole display, and HIAA2 will be utilized for the under-display camera innovation.
Samsung Under Display Camera innovation
The Elec reports that Samsung will utilize the HIAA2 equipment to produce a transparent screen where the UDC will be put. The equipment features a laser to drill small holes in the display screen to enhance the transmission of light to the camera listed below it. The procedure is called Laser Etching.
Samsung is concentrated on minimizing the size and number of pixels in the hole area and increasing the openness and permeability of the substrate. The existing OLED substrate is not transparent and has a yellow tint.
Samsung Display is preparing to import mass production facilities early next year after utilizing HIAA2 equipment this month. Samsung under display camera is anticipated to launch in the very first half of 2020.
Samsung Under Display Camera challenges
The innovation of the Under Display Camera is quite attractive. Still, to perfect this, Samsung has to overcome challenges like- making the area of the OLED display transparent for the underneath camera, effective algorithm to balance the yellow light, and haziness of the photos captured from the camera.
The innovation will take time to improve in the coming future, as the in-display fingerprint sensor.
Apart from Samsung, other companies like- OPPO, Xiaomi, and Honor confirmed their working on Under Display Camera smartphones. So we could see multiple companies work on the Under Display Camera smartphones in the coming future.
