Qualcomm has announced its new Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 compute platform for 5G laptops on the first day of the virtual IFA 2020 event. The American chipmaker giant said that the new processor comes with 5G connectivity and WiFi 6 support to provide users with an excellent connectivity experience. So, without further ado, let’s talk about the features and specifications of this new chipset.
First, let’s talk about the CPU and GPU. The Snapdragon 8xc Gen 2 comes with an octa-core Qualcomm Kryo 495 CPU, which includes 4x Cortex-A76 cores and 4x Cortex-A55 cores. It also features an Adreno 680 Extreme GPU, which the company claims is their most potent GPU till now. Moreover, Qualcomm also claims that the laptops powering this chipset will offer twice as much battery life as traditional laptops.
Second, let’s talk about the modem. The Snapdragon 8xc Gen 2 comes with the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF system, which supports 5G connectivity with a peak download speed of 7Gbps and peak upload speed of 3Gbps.
Third, let’s talk about the internals. The Snapdragon 8xc Gen 2 comes with the Qualcomm 690 DSP and Qualcomm Spectra 390 image signal processor that offers support for 4K HDR and 4K Ultra HD videos. Moreover, it provides dual-camera support up to 16MP and a single camera up to 32MP.
As for the availability, Qualcomm said that this chipset would start showing up at retailers by the end of this year. Apart from the chipset, the company also announced that it is bringing a new Adaptive ANC tech for Bluetooth earphones and 5G connectivity to Snapdragon 4-series processors.
