Fast Charging technology has evolved over the years for smartphone users. 18W Quick Charge is now very common for every smartphone user, and people now want more faster-charging speeds. Companies like Realme and Oppo already have introduced 65W SuperVOOC charging and advancing towards 125W fast charging. Recently Xiaomi and Vivo also revealed their 100W charging technologies.
With the rapidly growing charging technologies, Qualcomm, the chipmaker company, has introduced Quick Charge 5. Quick Charge 5 is the successor to Quick Charge 4.0 and 4+ with a massive gain in charging speed and time.
As per Qualcomm,
Qualcomm Quick Charge technology is the number one method for fast charging. Quick Charge 5 is world’s Fastest Commercial Charging Solution delivering astonishing charging speeds of up to 0-50% in five minutes while enabling new battery technology, accessories, and safety features.
As per the company, Quick Charge 5 is 4X faster than Quick Charge 4. Apart from the charging speed, Quick Charge 5 is also up to 70-percent more efficient than its predecessor.
Support for 2S batteries and 20V power supply has made possible the faster charging rates. This means that you can soon see two battery packs (connected in series) within most phones-making two the voltage, twice the charging speed in the coming months.
Given the higher charge voltage, Qualcomm states that Quick Charge 5 runs 10-degree Celsius cooler than Quick Charge 4. Of course, there are different provisions for voltage, current, and temperature, too.
This system is backed by the reliability of Qualcomm’s Battery Saver and Smart Identification of Adapter Capabilities to boost the smartphone’s battery life further. Quick Charge 5 is backward compatible with existing products on the market, with Quick Charge 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 4.0 +.
Qualcomm has also announced its latest PMIC (next-generation power management ICs), Qualcomm SMB1396, and SMB1398. These are designed to offer 98 percent output, support wired and wireless input, more than 20V input voltage, and more for a faster charging experience.
Quick Charge 5 supported smartphones?
Smartphones equipped with Snapdragon 865, and 865+ already supports Quick Charge 5. Moreover, the future high-end chipsets from Qualcomm will follow the technology.
The Quick Charge 5 is currently under the testing phase, and we expect the company to make an appearance in commercial devices in Q3 of 2020.
