Qualcomm announces 5G for Snapdragon 4-series Mobile Platform

At the IFA 2020 event today, Qualcomm has announced to bring 5G to the Snapdragon 4-series mobile platforms next year.

The U.S. chipmaker has gradually expanded the number of Mobile Services that support the emerging 5G networks that are rolling out slowly across the world. Until now, Qualcomm had chips in the 7-series and 6-series of chipsets offering 5G outside its Snapdragon 8-series flagship processors. Now bringing 5G to the Snapdragon 4-series will deliver fast networking technology to the budget smartphones, hence global mass expansion of the 5G technology.

Cristiano Amon, President of Qualcomm Incorporated said,

“Qualcomm continues to pave the way for 5G commercialization at scale, and the expansion of 5G into our Snapdragon 4-series is expected to address regions that currently have approximately 3.5 billion smartphone users combined”

The company is planning on introducing the first 5G-enabled Snapdragon 4-series processor smartphone in 2021. In fact companies like Motorola, Oppo, Xiaomi will collaborate with Qualcomm to launch smartphones with the new processor in order to offer 5G to everyone. It is expected that the companies will launch their smartphone with the new processors in Q1 of 2021.

It seems like the company has just formally announced about the bringing 5G to the Snapdragon 4-series of Mobile Platform with no details regarding the new 5G processors. We expect Qualcomm to announce the details around December. So stay tuned with for more updates.
