Netflix is testing a new feature, which is human curated discovery known as Collections. It rounds up the content into themed lists like “Watch in One Weekend” and “Stream & Scream.” With this Collection feature, users can browse movies and tv shows that are curated by Netflix’s creative teams instead of the algorithms which normally recommends content to users on the home screen.[wpinsertshortcodead id=”bzyqm5d3e04029f48f”]
Jeff Higgins first spotted this new Collection feature which is only being tested on iOS for now. Netflix states that factors such as genre, tone, storyline, and character traits are utilized to arrange the titles. Some of the collections which currently showing up are ‘Short and Funny,’ ‘Artful Adventures,’ ‘Dark & Devious TV Shows,’ and ‘Oddballs & Outcasts’.
The new Collections feature is located at the top right corner of the home screen. When users tap on Collection, it will expand to show various titles such as ‘Explore Great Britain,’ ‘Real & Riveting,’ ‘Just for Laughs,’ etc. with number of TV shows or movies include in each with how many users are following that Collection.[wpinsertshortcodead id=”zxikm5d3e04a8f1451″]
Netflix told TechCrunch:
We’re always looking for new ways to connect our fans with titles we think they’ll love, so we’re testing out a new way to curate Netflix titles into collections on the Netflix iOS app. Our tests generally vary in how long they run for and in which countries they run in, and they may or may not become permanent features on our service.
Netflix didn’t mention that when will this feature will roll out to all users, or whether users will see it on other platforms like Netflix for TVs.
