After a discussion between Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, and Donald J. Trump, the company is now prepared to discuss more to purchase TikTok in the US.
TikTok is currently the property of ByteDance, a Chinese corporation. Because of Trump’s security concerns when it comes to Chinese companies, the idea is that after Microsoft purchases the US. operations from TikTok, all the US user’s data will remain in the country, rather than possibly being returned to China. Microsoft has agreed that, if this transaction happens, US users’ data will be returned to the US.
Moreover, Microsoft and ByteDance could also include Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
The deal is right now, only made upon a notification made by Microsoft and ByteDance to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States and may invite other American companies to take part in the purchase as a minority.
Microsoft also mentioned that the new structure would build on TikTok’s current user’s love, with added world-class security and digital safety. The service’s operating model will be designed to ensure users’ reliability and sufficient government security oversight in the selected countries.
