Recently, MediaTek has announced its new chip i.e. the Dimensity 800 at the Product Communication Conference of the company. This chip is built for the devices in the mid-range category and equipped with a 5G modem it gives support for 5G data connectivity.
The company has said that the Dimensity 800 will get launched officially in the first quarter of the year 2020, and by the second quarter, we can expect to see the mid-range smartphones running this chip. Talking about the configurations, the company has not revealed anything about this newer chip. The only thing that is official about this SOC is its name and availability.
According to rumors, the Dimensity 800 will be featuring two Cortex-A76 cores while the other six will be Cortex-A50 series cores and it will have MT6873 as the model number As this will be a mid-range chip that will provide 5G functionality we can say that it is in direct competition with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765 chip. The Snapdragon 765 also has a 5G modem inbuilt for providing much higher data connectivity.
The 800 is just a lowered version of MediaTek’s Dimensity 1000, also a 5G chip but with much better performance and optimizations. Dimensity 1000 is a Flagship-Grade processor that will be empowering the upcoming flagships in the year 2020. Most probably, we can see flagships running Dimensity 1000 5G chip in the first quarter of the upcoming year.
