Instagram is introducing a new feature called “Suggested Post” that will be displayed at the end of the feed to recommend content that might be in interest to the user. This is a new way by the company to spend more time on the app after scrolling through the recent post by the followed accounts.
The company mentioned to TechCrunch,
“Our goal is to make it clear when you’re all caught up so you can decide how you want to best use your time,” says Instagram director of product, Robby Stein. “We see people continuing to seek out more posts they’re interested in after catching up with their feeds, so we wanted to learn from that and make it easier to go a little deeper for those who choose to do so.”
The new feature shows up in a new location just below the “You ‘re All Caught Up” notice announced two years ago. It will display content from accounts similar to those you follow, and posts similar to those you like. The new destination also shows advertisements alongside these kinds of content, making it an enticing platform for advertisers as per TechCrunch report.
The “Suggested Posts” feature gives Instagram a new surface where it can display ads that will appear from accounts you don’t follow alongside the suggested content, but Instagram believes you might want to. This means more opportunities for advertisers to see their message.
Interestingly, its appearance below the “You’re All Caught Up” alert makes it look like Instagram is toning down its initiative for digital wellbeing. That’s because it seems to throw you into an endless feed of content even after you’ve seen every post from the people you follow in the last two days.
The new feature by Instagram is rolling out worldwide from today.
