Instagram features a New Fact-Checker that will terminate fake news

Today, Instagram has launched a feature that will help in terminating fake information and news spreading on the popular social media platform. This feature includes an independent fact-checking team that will figure out whether the information given in the post is true or false.

The Facebook-owned app received this feature as this popular app has been the target of Internet Research Team that blames Instagram for its interference in the elections conducted in the year 2016.

With the use of this feature, if a post is confirmed as fake news, then it will be tagged as a False Information tag. The information with this kind of tag will be removed from hashtags and explore areas to prevent their circulation around the internet, and as it is labeled as false information, then it will be easier for people to identify it and get over with it.

The fact-checking feature basically consists of independent people who do their research and analyze if the information given in the post is genuine or not, and with that sheer effort and dedication, they help making Instagram rumors free for everyone.

Not only that, Instagram can even identify if a piece of information is fake or not just as you are about to post it! It will automatically detect your upcoming post as False information. You can still post it if you want, but it will be labeled as False information and will be hidden at first glance. Your followers will first have to tap on that post in order to be able to see it.

As you know, it is done by a team of fact-checkers so, the reviewing can take some time, but the app wants to increase the speed of its fact-checking feature. To increase the reviewing speed on the app, the pending reported posts will be checked by third-party fact-checkers.

Fake news is the epitome of downsides a social media platform has to face! That’s why this feature is very necessary for Instagram or any other social media platform, whether it be Facebook or Twitter as rumors and fake news travels like a wildfire on the internet. Such fake pieces of information result in misconceptions and in extreme cases, communal or social hatred towards some particular thing.

This isn’t the only feature Instagram is preparing to launch. To counter online bullying on the social media platform, there will be a new feature that will help you to choose your caption word carefully if they contain any kind of racist slang or signs of online bullying. The hope is that before you post anything blindly, just take a look at the notification and think twice before you post something unhealthy on the app.

The Facebook-owned app said “As part of our long-term commitment to lead the fight against online bullying, we’ve developed and tested Artificial Intelligence that can recognize different forms of bullying on Instagram,”
