After launching the Huawei Mate X, a foldable smartphone in 2019, the Chinese tech giant is now planning to release another foldable smartphone which is rumored to be the Huawei Mate X2. Recently, Huawei has applied for a patent for its upcoming smartphone which looks like a foldable smartphone.
The display of this new foldable device will be folded inside as the previous device, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Fold. The patent application was filed by Huawei in the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
Talking about the design, it will be similar to the Mate X but the display will apparently fold inwards like the Samsung Fold. Based on the sketches, it is clear that Mate X2 will work with a pen/stylus. The phone will have slightly curved corners in comparison to Mate X’s squared-off edges.
Talking about the camera, the Mate X2 will feature a dual front-facing camera on the front and a quad-camera setup on the rear. In short, this smartphone is going to have six pretty awesome cameras. If you look at the sidebar in the sketch where the front cameras are placed, you will get an idea of where the stylus would be placed.
The patent didn’t reveal the information about the specs of the smartphone but we can expect that the Mate X2 will be powered by Huawei’s latest 7nm Kirin 990 SoC which means you will get support for 5G. The device is expected to launch in nearly the third quarter of 2020. It is also rumored that Mate X2 will come with the most awaited 5nm Kirin 1020 processor. So far, all we can do is, wait for Huawei to shred some light on this topic.
