Microsoft will call the Windows 7 operating system end of life on 14 January. From tomorrow onwards, there will be no support from the company, which means no updates, security patches, and bug fixes of the OS though Google Chrome will be supported on this OS up to July 2021.
So, if you are still on Windows 7, today is the right time to upgrade your OS to Windows 10. According to the Microsoft website, you need to purchase the license for Windows 10. Here is what mentioned on the website about the end of life:
Microsoft made a commitment to provide ten years of product support for Windows 7 when it was released on 22 October 2009. When this 10-year period ends, Microsoft will discontinue Windows 7 support so that we can focus our investment on supporting newer technologies and great new experiences. The specific end of support day for Windows 7 will be 14 January 2020. After that, technical assistance and software updates from Windows Update that help protect your PC will no longer be available for the product. Microsoft strongly recommends that you move to Windows 10 sometime before January 2020 to avoid a situation where you need service or support that is no longer available.
However, you still can use Windows 7- the only thing is that you will be longer get Microsoft security updates or fixes or technical support for any issues making it vulnerable to security risks and viruses. But, we recommend you to upgrade it to Windows 10.
Thus, if you are using a licensed and activated copy of Windows 7, 8, or 8.1, here is a way to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. Follow the below steps to upgrade:
- Go to this page here
