Google has launched Chrome 78 web browser for Windows Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS with new customize options for the New Tab page, a click to call feature, new tab overlays, forced dark mode, and support for Password Checkup.[wpinsertshortcodead id=”zxikm5d3e04a8f1451″]
In Chrome 78, there are more customization options than using a theme from Chrome Web Store or adding a background to the New Tab page. Google offers a gallery, or upload your own image and can manage shortcuts looks, suggestions, curations, and don’t show.
It also has a click-to-call feature where you can highlight a phone number on desktop and can send it to your Android phone or can dial the number on your phone from the desktop web page. The UI that appears while hovering over a tab has also been redesigned. Previously it shows a strip of text, but now, there appears a bubble overlay when hovered. Google is also planning to add preview thumbnails in the upcoming updates.
Google has also provided a Forced Dark Mode feature, which enables darker theme settings on every website, whether it supports or not. However, while forcing a darker theme, it doesn’t interfere with the source code; it uses color inversion rule.
The company launched its Password Checkup extension back in February, which will also be integrated into Chrome 78 soon. Here is what Google mentioned about it:
If we detect that a username and password on a site you use is one of over 4 billion credentials that we know have been compromised, the extension will trigger an automatic warning and suggest that you change your password.
