Finally, the much-requested and anticipated dark mode feature for Whatsapp is being rolled out to its Android beta application. As per WABetaInfo recently, WhatsApp has pushed the new update via Google Play Beta Program, upgrading the version to 2.20.13. If you are on the Beta program, then update your app version to 2.20.13 Android beta to access the feature.
The update is rolling out to the users who opted for the beta build of the app, but it will roll out for all Android users in the coming weeks. However, there is a way for non-beta users to enable the dark mode feature. Users can sideload the APK from here and install it. Once installed, follow the below steps to activate it:
- Open Whatsapp
- Go to Settings
- Tap on Chats
- Now, tap on Display
- Under Theme select Dark Theme
Under the new Theme option, there are more themes as well, which includes Light and Set By Battery Saver. It also has a System Default option for phones running on Android 10 where Dark mode is already enabled from the phone’s settings.
Once the dark mode is enabled, you will see a dark background, which is not entirely black, fonts in dark grey color, and green bubbles for conversations.
