The global semiconductor and software design company ARM has finally revealed its latest CPU and GPU stack. It consists of the latest Cortex-A78 CPU and Mali-G78 GPU, which will power up your flagship smartphones soon, hopefully, next year. Let’s talk about both CPU and GPU in a little bit of detail. First, we will discuss the Cortex-A78 CPU.
The Cortex-A78 comes with similar architecture as its predecessor and assures 50% power saving this time. Also, on-device ML tasks will now consume up to 8% less energy on average. In terms of performance, it offers up to 20% more performance in comparison to the Cortex-A77 CPU, used in Kryo 585 CPU in Snapdragon 865.
In its official press release, ARM said that the Cortex-A78 is “unquestionably our most efficient Cortex-A CPU ever designed for mobile.” Also, it will facilitate improved machine learning and 5G experience within a 1-watt power budget.
Now, let’s talk about the Mali-G78 GPU. The Mali-G78 GPU is based on the new Valhall-based GPU architecture and offers a 15% performance density enhancement. Also, it provides up to 25% more performance in comparison to its predecessor, the Mali-G77 GPU. Also, the Mali-G78 is much more power-efficient than its predecessors. It supports up to six cores.
In other words, you can draw out more time for entertainment or gaming on a similar-sized battery used in today’s flagship smartphone.
