As we know, Apple always keeps innovating new stuff when it comes to its iPhones. This time, the American Giant has focused on the durability of its devices and has opted for something new. Apple has registered a new patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), which shows that the company will be using reinforced glass to increase the resistance and durability of their iPhones.
With this new patent, Apple shows how Spiral Grain Coatings technology on a glass structure can make the devices more durable and resistant from scratches or damage. Also, by using the vapor deposition technique, layers of thin fil can be spattered on the housing. Now, let’s talk about this new glass technology in a bit of detail.
The new glass technology comes with a more durable cover glass coating that provides benefits like anti-reflective properties, anti-scratch, and much more. Some rumors state that the reinforced structure of the glass will feature several layers of coating using polycrystalline materials. According to the patent diagram, we can say that the implementation will be in the form of an interlaced spiral shape or a spiral band.
Also, this new glass coating is not only applicable to iPhones. Apple can also use this technology for its other devices like iPad, MacBook Pro, iMac, and even the Apple Watch. However, there is no confirmation about if Apple will use this technology in the future, as Apple files many patents, and some of them never make it to the market. So, we advise you guys to take this information as a pinch of salt until Apple officially says something about it.
