As we know, all of us are familiar with our current situation with China. The boycott of Chinese apps and products has started the development of lots of Indian apps such as Chingari and Mitron. However, the vice president of India, Mr. M. Venkaiah Naidu, has launched a social media super app known as Elyments. It is an alternative for the American social media app Facebook.
At the app launch briefing, Mr. VP Venkaiah Naidu said,
“India is an IT powerhouse, and we have some of the world’s best-known names in this field. With such a huge pool of talented professionals, I feel there should be many more such innovations coming out in the future.”
Elyments is the first official Indian social media app developed for social media activists in India. It is created by a company called Sumeru Software Solutions, which is a team of over 1000 IT professionals. This app not only has features from Facebook but also Instagram and Whatsapp. In simple words, it features all-important chat features with support for audio and video calls. Moreover, there’s also an in-app camera with filters and AR characters.
In terms of privacy, the app comes with end-to-end encryption (E2EE), which keeps your data safe and protected on a server hosted in India. The app is currently available in eight Indian languages including, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and English. However, as the app is still new, it does have some bugs. For example, the OTP verification fails every time whenever you attempt to sign up on the app. Although, the French security expert Robert Baptiste is going to check the errors and report security loopholes this week. So, maybe the issue will get fixed soon.
So far, this Indian app has crossed over 1M downloads and on Google Play Store, and the number keeps increasing. You can download the app on both Android and iOS. However, our advice would be, wait for a while. Or if the signup process works fine for you, give it a shot. Till then, stay tuned for more updates.
