Apple announces all-new iPad Air with A14 Bionic chipset starting at $599

-

Yesterday, along with the 8th Gen iPad, the Cupertino firm also announced the all-new iPad Air. As per the company, it is the most powerful, versatile, and colorful iPad Air ever.

The new iPad Air comes with a complete redesign, more similar to iPad Pro’s design with flat sides and no home button. The new iPad Air features a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display with a 2360 x 1640 pixel resolution. The device’s display is fully laminated with P3 wide color support, True tone, and anti reflective coating for the immersive visual experience.

Although the new iPad Air design looks similar to the iPad Pro but doesn’t include Face ID, instead, the firm uses a next-gen Touch ID sensor (fingerprint sensor) integrated into the power button.

In terms of the internals, the new iPad Air is powered by the most advanced A14 Bionic chipset built on the 5nm process. The new A14 Bionic chipset has 11.8 billion transistors to deliver a 40-percent CPU performance boost and a 30-percent GPU boost over the previous iPad Air. The A14 Bionic has a six-core CPU (4 high-performance cores and 2 high-efficiency cores) and a four-core GPU.

In addition, there is a 16-core neural engine capable of performing 11 trillion operations per second, resulting in 2x faster machine learning performance on the CPU.

In terms of optics, the new iPad Air features a rear 12MP camera with an aperture f/1.8 same used in iPad Pro and includes a 7MP front FaceTime HD camera with aperture f/2.2. The rear camera is capable of shooting a 4K video at 60fps and slow-motion up to 240fps, whereas the front camera is capable of shooting a 1080p video at 60fps.

The new iPad Air now features a USB Type-C port to transfer large bandwidth of data up to 5Gbps or connect accessories like cameras, hard drives, and 4K external monitors.

In terms of accessories, the new iPad Air supports the 2nd-Gen Apple Pencil, which can be attached to the device magnetically for wireless charging, just like the iPad Pro, and supports the Magic keyboard.
