Recently, Intel has detailed its latest 10th Gen 14nm Comet Lake H-series processors, which would be found in gaming and creator laptops and mobile workstations. Previously in January at CES 2020, the company mentioned that it had crossed the 5GHz barrier and hits a clock speed of 5.3GHz with its H-series notebook CPUs.
The chipmaker detailed 6 CPU under the list, which includes Core i9-i9-10980HK, i7-10875H, i7-10850H, i7-10750H, i5-10400H, and i5-10300H among which the i9-i9-10980HK is high end with a base clock speed of 2.4GHz and 5.3GHz Turbo clock speed. The chipset has 8 cores and 16 threads and is unlocked for overclocking.
The Core i7-10875H has the same cores and threads as the i9 but has a base clock speed of 2.3GHz and a Turbo speed of 5.2GHz, whereas the i7-10850H and Core i7-10750H has 6 cores and 12 threads. The base speed of these chipsets is also higher than the i7-10875H.
The i9 and i7 processors come with Thermal Velocity Boost, which helps the processors to reach beyond 5GHz speeds which automatically bumps the clock frequency to 200MHz if the temperature is below 65 degrees.
Apart from i9 and i7, Core i5 is also included in the series though they have 4 cores and 8 threads, and as the Single Core Turbo Boost speed is below 5GHz, it doesn’t have the Thermal Velocity Boost feature. Check the below table to have detailed information about them.
|Turbo Clock Speed (GHz)||Cores/|
|Intel Core i9-10980HK||2.4||5.3||8 / 16||45||Yes||Yes||16|
|Intel Core i7-10875H||2.3||5.1||8/16||45||Yes||16|
|Intel Core i7-10850H||2.7||5.1||6/12||45||Yes||Partially||12|
|Intel Core i7-10750H||2.6||5.0||6/12||45||Yes||12|
|Intel Core i5-10400H||2.6||4.6||4/8||45||8|
|Intel Core i5-10300H||2.5||4.5||4/8||45||8|
Moreover, the processors come with support for WiFi 6, Thunderbolt 3, and Intel Optane memory. These processors could be Intel’s answer to AMD’s Ryzen 4000 series CPUs. The H-series will feature in ASUS Zephyrus Duo 15, Rog Strix SCAR 17, and Rog Strix G laptops.
